Feed the Nation Foundation

Feed the Nation (FTN) is Pick n Pay’s flagship humanitarian initiative, providing sustainable food relief to vulnerable communities across South Africa, with a strong focus on supporting child-headed households. These families are among the most at-risk in the country, and FTN works closely with schools, social workers, and community partners to ensure children do not shoulder adulthood alone.

Our Core Focus Areas

Child-Headed Households: Monthly food hampers or vouchers for children identified and assessed through schools, ensuring consistent access to nutrition and stability.

- Food Security: Ongoing food support to vulnerable families, schools, and communities.

- School Feeding Support: Through the Pick n Pay School Club and partners, thousands of children receive daily access to food.

- Disaster Relief: Emergency parcels during floods, fires, and crises.

- Sustainability Initiatives: Food gardens at priority schools, helping children and communities grow their own produce and build resilience.

Impact & Reach (to date)

- R23.9 million in food donated directly to child-headed households

- 6.8 million meals served specifically to child-headed households

- R226.5 million worth of food distributed in total

- Over 45.4 million meals served

- 636 schools reached nationwide

Partnerships

FTN partners with organisations such as the Kolisi Foundation, ABSA, Boxer, Midea, and the Black Coffee Foundation, enabling aligned efforts to support children facing extreme vulnerability.

Celebrating Milestones

Feed the Nation is proudly celebrating five years of impact in 2025, with child-headed households remaining a key priority for the next phase of the foundation’s work. Next year we enter our 6 th year and look forward to many more, feeding child-headed households.
